Customs, A-GF partner to boost revenue, enhance officer training

The Nigeria Customs Service is aiming to strengthen its collaboration with the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to further boost national revenue and enhance the training of its officers.

This initiative follows a reported significant increase in the Service’s revenue.

Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, received Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, on a courtesy visit to the Customs House in Maitama, Abuja, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

During the visit, Adeniyi emphasised the crucial role of the Accountant-General’s office in national revenue management.

He described the visit as “a timely, symbolic and remarkable move towards tying fiscal collaboration between the two government institutions.”

In a statement posted on the Customs official Twitter handle, now X, on Saturday, CGC Adeniyi acknowledged the economic challenges facing the nation, particularly in public revenue generation.

He assured the AGF of the NCS’s commitment to addressing these challenges through strategic innovations and operational discipline.

“We have seen how critical revenue generation is in this country, and we are doing our best from our part,” the CGC stated.

He further highlighted the Service’s recent performance, saying, “Looking at how the Service was able to increase its revenue by over 70% before the end of 2024, it is a demonstration of our resolve to support the government’s financial stability.”

The CGC also congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment and commended his proactive approach to inter-agency collaboration.

Responding to the AGF’s proposal for a joint training program for staff from both organisations, Adeniyi welcomed the idea. He pledged the Service’s support, stating that it would contribute to capacity building and enhanced cooperation.

Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, expressed his appreciation to the NCS leadership for the warm reception. He said he was “delighted to witness the proactive and strategic leadership style of the CGC.”

“This collaboration has just started, and I want to assure you that it is going to be robust,” AGF Ogunjimi remarked. He also proposed, “I also wish to request that we bring on board some of your officers to our office to be engaged in training that will strengthen inter-agency understanding and cooperation.”
