Gbongan Day: Babayemi receives Award of Excellence, as Olufi assures him of support
Omo-Oba Dotun Babayemi, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, was on Saturday honoured with an Award of Excellence at the Gbongan Olufi Day 2025 held in Gbongan, Osun State.
Awards of Excellence were presented to illustrious sons of Gbongan Land, including the APC Chieftain, Dotun Babayemi. The other Awardees were Prof. Olufemi Alabi, Prof. Adekola Olayinka Oke, Prof. Adisa Ademola, and Gbenga Adewole Mejooda.
The Olufi of Gbongan, HRM Oba (Dr.) Adetoyese Oyeniyi Odugbemi (I), while presenting the Award of Excellence, stated that Babayemi comes from a lineage that has served Gbongan wholeheartedly, especially through his late father, the immediate past Olufi of Gbongan, Oba (Dr.) Solomon Oyewole Babayemi. He assured Babayemi of the town’s support for him at all times.
While accepting the Award, Babayemi, flanked by scores of his friends and supporters, stated that the Award is a call to greater service, and promised to renew his dedication to the development of Gbongan town.
Speaking on the side of the event, the President of Gbongan Indigenes Association (Abuja Chapter), Jide Ogunyooye, called on Gbongan Indigenes worldwide to make efforts to return home to develop Gbongan.
Other indigenes of the town expressed their joy with the Gbongan Olufi Day 2025 and prayed for sustained peace and prosperity for the ancient town.
The Gbongan Olufi Day 2025 Celebration also featured a Five Hundred Million Naira (500,000,000) fundraising for the construction of a College of Health Technology in Gbongan. The event saw the convergence of illustrious sons, daughters, and friends of Gbongan Town, who gathered to celebrate the cultural heritage of the ancient town.
