Signum Communications announces first edition of Signum Media Awards

An emerging media and communication company, Signum Communications Limited, has announced Sunday 29th March 2026 as the date for the first edition of Osun Media Awards, an event aimed at recognising excellence in journalism/broadcasting, and celebrating media personalities across the State.

The first-of-its-kind event will witness presentation of Awards of Excellence to Journalists/Broadcasters operating in the Print, Digital, and Electronic Media spaces in the State with particular focus on outstanding investigative news reports, compelling documentaries, socially relevant programmes, and a host of others.

Speaking via a press statement on Wednesday, the Chief Communications Officer of Signum Communications Limited, Adedayo Oderinu stated that the company recognized the need to recognize excellent Media practitioners, who are giving their all to the task of shaping society through information, investigation, education, and solutions.

According to him, “the Media Industry takes everything from practitioners. Time, energy, intellectual resources, and so on. Unfortunately, there has not been adequate recognition and motivation for the broadcasters and journalists who commit their all to driving our all-important industry. It is saddening that the few awards available require prospective recipients to lobby for votes, when their work should be enough to make them deserving of recognition and celebration.”

“What we are launching with the Signum Media Awards is a platform that celebrates these hardworking Media practitioners without putting them under pressure to lobby for or buy votes. We want to identify excellent broadcasters and Journalists through an all-encompassing and transparent process, celebrate them on a big stage, and motivate them with financial benefits as a reward for their dedication and passion.”

Speaking about the process of nomination and eventual selection of Awardees, Oderinu said “all recognizable Media Firms will be contacted to participate in the process of shortlisting prospective awardees. A jury made up of practitioners drawn from all sectors of the Media Industry in the State will review the shortlist and an aggregate system will be used to decide the final Awardees.”

He added that “prospective Awardees will not have to lobby for votes or pay to be recognized; rather, awardees will receive cash prizes for their continued dedication to the craft. The public will also be carried along in the planning process to ensure transparency.”

The Signum Media Awards will celebrate outstanding achievements in journalism, broadcasting, digital media, and storytelling, as it seeks to unite the best representatives of the State’s media landscape.
